CFB Week 7 Picks

Needless to say it's been a disappointing past couple of weeks.  That said, it's time to get back to the original format that was working. Let's not waste anymore time with meaningless setup and jump right into the picks...

Indiana at Wisconsin (-39.5, 60.5)
The Quick Zip:

  • Indiana comes into the match-up giving up 4.55ypc and 210ypg, both of which are near the bottom of the barrel in the entire nation. It's no secret that Wisconsin wants to run, and they've done it effectively averaging 5.49ypc and 242ypg.
  • Indiana has trouble protecting their quarterbacks as they have allowed 18 sacks through their first six games. Wisconsin has been able to get to opposing QBs 12 times in only five games, so look for them to be pressuring whichever QB the Hoosiers roll with.
The Badgers won this match-up 83-20 last year in Camp Randall, and I see no reason for that to be any different this year.
The Pick: Wisconsin -39.5

Oklahoma State at Texas (+7, 64.5)
The Quick Zip:
  • Last week Texas showed they can be beaten by the pass as Landry Jones threw for 367 yards and 3 TDs.  If you haven't heard, the Cowboys QB Brandon Weeden is torching defenses and has 1,880 yards and 15 TDs through five games this year.
  • Oklahoma State is not known for their defense.  Over the past three weeks the Cowboy's D has allowed an average of 30 points to Kansas (28), Texas A&M (29) and Tulsa (33).
I can't talk myself out of this one no matter how hard I try because they're such a trendy picks but...
Final Score Prediction: Oklahoma State wins 42-28
The Pick: Oklahoma State -7 and Over 64.5

Purdue at Penn State (-12, 41)
The Quick Zip:
  • Don't be fooled by Purdue's gaudy 32.6ppg average on offense as they've had two blowout wins against SE Missouri State and Minnesota.  Against a decent Notre Dame team, they were only able to manage 10 points on 276 yards of total offense.
  • Penn State's running back Silas Reed is coming off some solid performances of 142 and 129 yards the past two games.  Even with their soft schedule, the Purdue defense averages 142.8 rushing ypg, which allowed the Irish to grab 7.2ypc.
The Pick: Penn State - 12

Louisville at Cincinnati (-13.5, 48.5)
The Quick Zip:
  • On defense the Bearcat's 2.15ypc and Louisville's 2.32ypc rank 3 and 6 nationally, but based on schedules I only believe Cincy's is truly legit.  On offense the Bearcats are averaging 5.4ypr and 220.8ypg running the ball.
  • Louisville appears to be allergic to TDs as they've only managed 11 all season, which ranks 111th among all FBS teams.  Cincy ranks 9th in the nation with 30 TDs, so this team can score.
Cincinnati is going to expose Louisville's rush defense and it will be lights out pretty early for the Cardinals.
The Pick: Cincinnati -13.5

Oklahoma at Kansas (+35.5, 72.5)
The Quick Zip:
  • Reference the Kansas at Oklahoma State game last week.
The Pick: Oklahoma -21.5 1H

Boise State at Colorado State (+32.5, 54)
The Quick Zip:
  • The Broncos like to get out to fast starts, having outscored their opponents 84-0 in the first half of their past three games.  On the flip side, the Rams have been slow starters in their past three, getting outscored 45-24.
The Pick: Boise State -17.5 1H

Bass' Bonus Picks
A buddy of mine, who goes by the nickname "Bass", wants some recognition on the site, so I told him I'd start posting his picks. My hope is to get a weekly video from him to add a little something extra for those of you following at home.  Here are his picks this week:
  • Florida State -12, Clemson -7.5, Georgia Tech -7, South Carolina -3 and Michigan ML
