Picking a Bracket: The National Champion: Top 10 Stats - Part 2

Per Part 1, going back to 2002, the National Champion has finished the season in the top 10 of at least one of the key statistical categories. As another fun fact, of the past 33 National Champions, 29 of them have been seeded 1, 2 or 3 (Fanbay.com).

Here are the top 10 lists with the teams seeded 1, 2 or 3 highlighted:

Based on this list and taking seeds into consideration, we have six potential national champions to consider:
  • North Carolina (1): 4 (# of top 10 stat category rankings)
  • Missouri (2): 3
  • Syracuse (1), Kentucky (1), and Marquette (3): 2
  • Kansas (2): 1
While this doesn't narrow it down to just one, in many ways this is just as valuable, as it should help put some perspective on which teams you don't want going all the way, such as Michigan State, Duke, or Florida State.
